Clothing

The word ‘textile’ derives from Latin meaning ‘woven’ or ‘to weave’. It is a process that is thousands of years old but still being practiced and redefined today by textile artists using a range of techniques to create amazing wearable garments and accessories that are truly one-of-a-kind. Each item is slightly different from the last, which is the beauty of handmade clothing! Check out Edith Otto’s velvet creations or Sue Winner’s opulent and creative couture. Reem Khalil is also not to be missed featuring textiles that are hand-dyed with natural elements.

Did You Know?

Textile art is the process of creating something out of fiber. Did you know some of our textile artists actually make their own dyes from nature? Eucalyptus, indigo, mustard and mushroom are just a few. Imagine for a moment our lives without textiles….it’s no wonder we adorn our bodies and homes with rich colors and fabrics. From the rugs at our feet to the hats on our head, textiles have given us warmth and comfort since the beginning of time.

Come to the festival to learn and experience even more!
